Eleanor Prescott Hammond

Hammond, Eleanor Prescott.  Chaucer: A Bibliographical Manual.  The Macmillan Company. New York, 1908.

Republished a number of times, Hammond’s Chaucer: A Bibliographical Manual is an amazing achievement that can’t be faulted for the rare instances where it is incomplete or in error. It is still my primary source for information about Chaucer editions published before 1900.  And if I have found an occasional edition, translation, or retelling that Hammond missed, not even in my dreams am I be capable of such scholarship even with all the sources and information available on the internet.
